Sunday, October 28th, 2007 - Cape Town Flower Show & Garden Show @ Lourensford Estate 28 October 2007

World-class show gardens created by South Africa's leading garden designers and landscapers will be the centre piece of the Cape Town Flower and Garden Show this year. The event, celebrating its 5th year, will inspire visitors with the latest gardening trends and showcase the hottest ideas and products in its horticultural marketplace at Lourensford Wine Estate in Somerset West from Thursday 25 October to Sunday 28 October.Gardening demos and lectures presented by South African and international gardening personalities, including many times Chelsea gold medal winner and respected organic herb farmer, Jekka McVicar, will take place on the show ground. The award-winning 2007 Kirstenbosch-South Africa exhibit created for the Royal Horticultural Society's Chelsea Flower Show will again be recreated at the show by acclaimed South African designers David Davidson and Ray Hudson, courtesy of First National Bank. The Cape Town Flower and Garden Show 2007 will play host to a potpourri of show gardens, plants and floral displays, but also introduce a sensory smorgasbord of Cape cuisine, wines, boutique cheeses and olives to be savoured against a backdrop of classical music.'We've added wines, cheeses, olives and other culinary delights to the mix this year to enrich the overall experience in this beautiful garden setting,' said Suzanne Rawle, newly appointed general manager of the event. 'The show will also offer a wider selection of gardening products and tools, garden furniture, water features, crafts inspired by nature and plants, all for sale in the show's marketplace.Picnics can be enjoyed in the shade of the large oak trees whilst a variety of live classical music acts will provide enjoyment and relaxing entertainment for patrons. A dedicated playground will keep younger visitors happily amused.A series of lectures and demonstrations by well known gardening professionals and personalities will teach visitors how to create the illusion of space in a small garden or courtyard; the dynamics of bringing a garden design into the home; topiary pruning; the subtle use of trellising in the garden; flower arranging and even cooking with herbs.'The main objective of the show is to entertain and inspire a love of everything that grows,' said David Davidson, design director of the show.Traffic congestion experienced during the previous two years of the show at Lourensford Wine Estate, is top priority in the planning of this year's event and organisers are working to ensure a better flow of traffic, particularly during peak times.Traffic officials will be deployed at key strategic access points entering Somerset West and Lourensford Wine Estate. In addition to this the entire polo field measuring a staggering 45 000 square meters will be used for visitor parking. The show opens at 9am and closes at 6pm daily, with an entrance fee of R50 for adults and R35 for scholars and senior citizens, while children under 12 enter free.Tickets at Computicket (www.computicket.com) or at the gate.
