10 ideas to refresh your home
If you feel like changing the look of your home, but don’t have the cash to do expensive alterations or to buy new furniture and fixtures, we have the perfect solution. There are a few simple tricks interior designers use to revamp and refresh your home. Follow our simple ideas and get a fresh new look for your home.
1. To refresh the look of your lounge or bedroom, think about sanding back your furniture. Sofas, beds, tables and chairs can look new and funky with bright or themed colours. For a cheap paint tip, water down white acrylic paint and whitewash your furniture for the country/beach look.
2. Paint a feature wall. Choose a wall in your home and use a colour to add depth and dimension to the room. A feature wall colour can be bright or subdued. Placing a painting, or flower arrangement nearby can be effective. Using a feature wall in the bedroom behind the bed is also popular and attractive.
3. Try your hand at being creative. There are many affordable ideas interior designers often use to spruce up an area. Try using natural wood or artefacts as a collage on a white wall. Recycle old canvases with new colour abstract painting. Try getting a mirror fitted with old fashioned decorative frames.
4. Bring some plants into your home. Potted plants can add colour and a fresh look to your home. If you don’t have any plants to add to your home, pick some flowers and put them in tall vases. You will be surprised how colour can add a fresh new dimension to your home.
5. Scatter pillows. Old scatter pillows can be recovered in bright and fun fabrics, add decorative materials such as ribbons and buttons to make them interesting. Scatter pillows used on a bed or on couches and chairs.
6. If you don’t have a penny to part with, rearrange your furniture. Moving couches, tables, chairs and your TV’s location can make your home feel different and new. Couches placed at angles to separate room space can be very effective.
7. Hang photos. Try hanging many frames on one wall to form a collage. It is also possible to paint the frames a particular colour (black or white wash) to make them look good together.
8. Add curtain ties. Pull back your curtains using ribbons, decorative material to add an elegant look to your lounge, bedroom and kitchen. In children’s rooms use teddy bears or ribbons on the tiebacks. This can be an effective and decorative window dressing technique.
9. Use lamps and add lighting. Lighting can change the look of any room. A fun idea is to use fairy lights on standing lamps. Vamp up old lamps and lights with decorative paper, ribbons, buttons, jewels and decorative paper.
10. Use large pieces of material as throws for beds and sofas. A vibrant colour can brighten your bedroom or lounge. Give your couch a new look with a throw in your favourite colour.
Use just one of our ideas to create a new look in your home. Do not let an empty purse stop you from having some interior decorating fun.
